Revolution: Warranty conditions are changing!

Ana sayfa / News

The European Union is preparing to make a decision that will affect millions of lives and thousands of technology companies in the near future. The warranty conditions for technological products in EU member countries will change. Currently, the component supply and repair period of up to 5 years will be extended to 10+ years. Here are the details…

Warranty conditions of technological products are changing!

The new warranty conditions that are intended to be applied to technological products in the EU require manufacturers to repair their products for 10 years from the date of purchase. This also means that devices or parts under warranty must be repaired rather than replaced, reducing the waste generated by faulty devices to a minimum.

The main focus of the new application is that hardware/component manufacturers must provide repair rights within 10 years, even if the warranty period has expired, as long as customers demand it. This includes not only household appliances, but also other consumer electronics such as phones and tablets, as well as automobiles.

Apple is compelling users to make the transition to eSIM!

Apple will make eSIM transition mandatory in Europe with its upcoming iPhone 15 series, which is expected to be unveiled in September.

The related proposal also calls for a “repair meeting platform” that will make it easier for consumers who want to repair their products. However, the Right to Repair coalition sees this new proposal as a missed opportunity as it does not demand a universal right to repair.

The biggest concern about the new proposal is that it does not say anything about the cost of repairs. This means that there may be price speculation in spare parts and repair costs, and as a result, it may be cheaper to buy a new product instead of repairing it.

In this scenario, if the device is completely scrapped, the proposal loses its meaning. However, as the proposal is further detailed over time, these issues will be shaped, and a proposal that all countries will want to sign will emerge.
